If you’ve been keeping up with my blog this summer you’ve seen how much I love to travel.  The thing is, plane rides can get long and boring if you don’t have anything to do.  But this weekend I’m seriously excited for the plane ride because it means I’ll have a few quiet hours to sit down and zone out on my book.  I’ve just started reading this fabulous novel, Everybody Rise (Stephanie Clifford) and I haven’t been able to put it down. I’ve been carrying it around with me all week from coffee to lunch, or anywhere I think I’ll have a quick minute to get in a few pages.  It is full of drama, and really captures a young woman’s path to success and happiness.  If you’re interested in picking up the perfect weekend read, here’s the scoop:

Think 2006 Manhattan, the city of the young and glamorous.  The protagonist, Evelyn Beegan, 26, is bright, funny, but socially anxious (she reminds me of me in
some ways).  She wants to carve out her own path in life and free herself from her social-climbing mother, but she grew up on the Upper East Side surrounded by Manhattan’s most privileged.  She’s always felt like an outsider but when she lands a job a social network aimed at her privileged peers, she is kind of forced to embrace that world.  The book draws you in as you watch her struggle while she gets sucked into this intoxicating glamorous lifestyle.

Sounds juicy right? I love a little drama –  as long as it’s not real life (can I get an ‘amen’?). Evelyn weekends frequently so this weekend I’m going to channel my inner Evelyn while taking a fun weekend trip to Dana Point.  I just hope I don’t run into as much trouble as she does when she goes off to the Hamptons.  I’m hoping for a fun, but quiet weekend by the beach so I can finish reading.

So whether you’re jetting away this weekend or staying home poolside, Everybody Rise is the perfect weekend read.
