Age of Adaline April 19 premiere Blake Lively Hair Instructions, Dash of Darling, Beauty Blogger

Blake Lively arguably has the best hair in Hollywood.  Did anyone see The Age of Adaline?  I was enthralled with her ever-classic, yet changing style through the decades.  But she wasn’t just stunning on-screen, she killed it on the red carpet as well (surprise, surprise).  And with each new ensemble came a new perfect hairstyle, but one in particular stood out… Appearing on the red carpet at the April 19 premiere, Blake wowed in a stunning red Monique Lhuillier gown accompanied by Old Hollywood waves modernized with a braid.

So today I decided to recreate the look and share a little how-to tutorial with you.  While Blake’s hair was achieved thanks to her stylist, that doesn’t mean you can’t knock this look out of the park too – you just need the right tools.  For this look

I used Pro Beauty Tools – they deliver professional performance and quality that will have you styling like a pro in no time.  So let’s get started!

STEP 1:

Part your hair on the side in a deep side part.  I like to part mine aligned with the arch of my brow.

STEP 2:

Divide your hair in half and pin the top half up, then bring the bottom half of your hair all to one side, the side you parted your hair towards.

STEP 3:

Using a one-inch curling wand while angling it down, wrap half-inch sections of your hair around the wand, moving away from your face to create major volume.  I am using Pro Beauty Tools one-inch Professional X-Long Curling Wand (available at Walmart), which is the perfect tool for long hair as it’s two-inches longer than traditional wands.

Continue curling your hair away from your face on the side of your deep side part (all of your curls should be in the same direction).

Note: while curling, you can either keep all of your hair on the one side of your head and continue curling to make your life easy, or, if you can’t reach it all, you can bring a few strands on the other side and wrap your hair around your wand towards your face (when you bring it back to the other side of your head the curls will all be in the same direction).

STEP 4:

Bring the top half of your hair down and continue curling away from your face, but start your curls lower

, around eye-level.

STEP 5:

Once you have finished curling and let your hair cool, lightly comb through your curls with a large paddle brush, then run a small amount of shine serum through your strands using your fingers.  I used Kerastase’s ‘Cristalliste’ shine perfecting serum.

For added volume, you can even flip your hair upside down while you brush out the waves.

STEP 6:

Moving onto the hair on the other side, braid a section towards the back of your head, following the hairline, then secure in place with bobby pins.  I chose to do a Dutch braid, which is very similar to a French braid, but you cross the strands under each other, instead of over.  I found this to be easier while switching my hands around when working my way around my head.

Next, pull the braid apart, piece by piece, to make it a little more chunky.

STEP 7:

Lastly, spritz your hair with your favorite hairspray for a lasting hold.  I used MoroccanOil’s Luminous Hairspray in ‘strong hold.’

Voilá!  You now have Blake Lively’s beautiful hair from the Age of Adaline premiere on April 19, 2015.

With Pro Beauty Tools my curls held from morning till night (and even the next morning), thanks to the gold-plated barrel which provides direct heat for a 24-hour curl lock.  There’s seriously nothing worse than spending all this time curling your hair only to have it fall out hours later.
