While Ben and I were visiting Sedona Arizona this past weekend we woke up suuuuuper early to watch the sun rise from the mountaintop. We heard from a local that driving up to Airport Road might provide a beautiful view at sunrise, but we decided to keep going. After driving for a bit down the 89A, we decided to turn off to head up Upper Red Rock Loop where we found a little place to pull over on a windy road and just started walking towards the edge of the cliff. We found this really cool old dead tree and decided to hang out there for a little bit. It was so beautiful. I wish we were more experienced photographers so we could have captured it better, but we got to enjoy a great memory.
When we travel, I prefer to wake up early and get our day started. It allows us to explore before the tourist crowds come out... and by breakfast we have already accomplished so much. I also recommend doing some research beforehand or ask the locals where to go. One of my favorite ways to get ideas is to search Instagram for geo-tags and hashtags of the destination I will be visiting. It helps me get a sense of the location and prioritize where we want to go. And from there, we can just explore.
I chose to wear this bohemian-esque Joie silk peasant shift dress because it is so light and breezy. Arizona in the summer can get intensely hot, so an airy-light boho mini is a must. I love how the billowy front is slightly pleated and the gently puffed sleeves gives this dress a little charm. It also comes in this pink floral pattern which is so beautiful that it makes me almost want to have both haha. Ridiculous, I know... but when you find something you love and that works for you, I am a firm believer in going for it.
I also found an incredibly similar mini shift dress on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (that's under $40)! It's a total steal and can be worn in both summer and fall (just add booties and a jacket).
Also, be sure to stay tuned because I will be sharing my packing tips for a weekend getaway shortly that you won't want to miss!
