Dash of Darling shares her favorite furniture and decor items for Walmart while discussing how to decorate on a budget.

Decorating your living space can be expensive and exhausting but, it doesn't have to be! A few simple updates can completely change the look and feel of a room. Today, I am partnering with Walmart to share my top five easy ways to decorate a home, dorm or apartment on a budget.

TIP #1: ADD A RUG
I am always amazed at how much a rug can change a space. We recently added a rug to our dining room and it completely transformed the look and feel of the room, making it feel more put together and home-y. You can use your rug to add a bold statement or a bright pop of color. One budget-friendly idea is to use a large natural fiber rug in a larger space, and then layer a smaller rug on top (one that you might not be able to afford in a larger size). It will bring the room together and make your house feel like a home.

TIP #2: SWITCH UP YOUR ACCESSORIES
Changing up your accessories and displays are a super effective, yet affordable, way to switch out the vibe of your space. Add some throw pillows in a fun color to brighten the mood. If you're not into color, look for a patterned pillow. I love this grey ikat pillow because the bold pattern would provide a modern update while the poms give it a unique flair. I also love these sea urchins, they'd look great on your coffee table.

TIP #3: GET A NEW LAMP
Adding a lamp to the right spot in a room can really liven it up. It's a small investment but it is a great way to set the mood in a space. A lamp is also an easy way to play with scale and height proportions. Attention to these details can really create harmony in your space and make it visually appealing. I am seriously loving this modern marble lamp from Walmart.

TIP #4: BRING THE OUTSIDE IN
Bringing flowers, a plant or tree into your home is an easy and inexpensive way to add a little dose of color and bring life into your home. I like to vary the height and size of my plants throughout the house to keep things interesting and less uniform. If you add a tall tree to a big empty room, it can instantly make it feel more lived in, while adding a smaller plant to a counter or mantle will add charm and color to a smaller space.

TIP #5: INCORPORATE SOME FLAIR
To easily switch up a room's vibe, replace one piece of furniture with something a bit different. For instance, if you have a more neutrally decorated home, switch out a chair for one in a fun color, like this pink linen chair or black and white stripe chair. You'd be surprised how much this would quickly update the look and feel of your home.
