Taking you back to Italy, I am excited to share Sorrento with you. Lying just across the Bay from Naples, this beautiful little picturesque town is incredibly charming. With views of Mount Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri, it's perfectly located along the Italian coastline.

If you are looking for a great base from which to stay and explore the region, Sorrento is a beautiful option. Ferries connect the town to Naples, Capri and more. Positano is a short drive away on the Amalfi Drive, a narrow road threaded along the cliffs high above the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Since I only got to spend a day here, I wanted to maximize my time by exploring the center of town. Our guides provided by our cruise line, Royal Caribbean, dropped us in the center of town at Piazza Tasso, which is a great spot to find some delicious gelato (some of the best I had our entire trip) and explore shops, cafés and watch the comings and goings of Sorrento. The buildings and structures that surround the square are pastel-hued, making you feel like you've traveled back in time through an creamsicle haha. It's so charming.

And speaking of architecture, if you're looking for a few highlights, I recommend checking out the Sorrento Cathedral (built in the 11th Century), the Cloister of San Francesco and the Church of Carmine (the yellow painted church shown above).

If you follow the steep road and stairs that lead to the small harbor or Marina Grande, you'll find gorgeous views and brightly painted boats in this peaceful harbor. It's a great spot to grab lunch by the sea or sit and read a book if you have time.

If you get the chance, stop by and visit the Imperial Hotel Tramontano, it was originally a private residence dating back to the 16th Century and was then turned into a hotel in 1812. It's beautiful, classic, refined and elegant architecture represents some of the most iconic images of Sorrento. Nestled on the cliffside overlooking the Gulf of Naples, it's a perfect spot to eat a delicious meal with a view (try the mouthwatering cannelloni).

All in all, Sorrento is a beautiful place to visit by wandering through the charming streets and narrow alleyways. Spend a few hours here and you will quickly learn why it's such a popular destination... and one that shouldn't be missed on your next visit to Italy.
