I have been getting a lot of questions on how I curl my hair lately… so here it is. I hope this is easy to follow.

Let me know what other tutorials you would like to see.

Follow these steps to get Caitlin’s every day wave:

Step 1:  Before putting any heat to your hair, work a small amount of protective serum throughout. Then, divide your hair in half, leaving the bottom half down.

Steps 2 – 3:  Starting at the front, use a one-inch barrel curling iron (I like to use my Hot Tools Ceramic one)  and curl one-inch sections away from your face. Hold for 5 seconds.

Step 4:  Here is the tricky part… instead of releasing the curl from the barrel, keep the curling iron clasp closed on the hair and pull it down, twisting the iron (with your hair still inside) in the direction of the curl to reinforce it. Then release. {{Having fine hair I have found that by doing this my hair will stay curly all day despite the humidity.}}

Steps 5 – 7:  Continue curling until you reach the back of your head. Then, repeat on the other side in the same manner (curling away from your face), starting at the front. This means you will be curling in the opposite direction as you were on the other side.  Then, lightly spray the curls with hairspray ( I LOVE L’Oreal’s Elnett Satin Hairspray because it’s not stiff and has UV protection).

Step 8:  I like to put the hair I have just curled behind me before I take down the top half of my hair. I divide the top half down the center and place the hair in front on each side.

Step 9:  Continue curling the top half of your hair, repeating steps 2 – 7. (Note: For my bangs I like to try to blend them in with the curl next to it using my fingers so the hair just kind of flows together).

Step 10:  Lastly, I like to lightly brush through my curls in the same direction as the curl using my gentle Wet Brush to combine them to get that soft wave look.

Step 11:  Set the curls with hairspray and voila! You are done!

I hope this was helpful and good luck!
