Ready for more Valentines Day inspiration?  Good, me too!  I have been especially excited this year… not to celebrate necessarily, but more to really put some time and thought into making my hubby feel extra special.  We don’t usually like to spend money for the Hallmark holiday so we try to find other ways to show our love.  One year I made him the cutest fortune cookies with homemade fortunes of our future together.  This year, I decided to make DIY heart shaped piñata boxes filled with all of the reasons why I love him (with the theme being, “my heart bursts for you.”)  I also made conversation heart sugar cookies and homemade s’mores pops to put inside the box as well.  Since this blog post is going up today and I didn’t want to spoil the surprise, we celebrated a bit early… he had a business dinner two nights ago and when he got home I had this set up all ready in our bedroom (with a little something extra special that we won’t discuss haha).

Anyway, here are the instructions if you’re interested in doing something like this for your main squeeze.  You can also find the s’mores pops recipe here.

HEART PIÑATA BOX:

What you’ll need:

Step 1: Poke a hole in the top of your box using the awl.

Step 2: Cut a desired length of your bakers twine and fold in half.  Pull both free ends through the hole and tie a knot.

Step 3: Fringe the crepe paper using your scissors and adhere to the box in strips using your craft glue, starting from the base of the heart and working your way up.  Note that the further you space each strip the more “fringy” it will look.

Step 4: Repeat step 3 for the sides of the top of the box, the sides of the bottom of the box as well as the bottom (all starting from the bottom and working your way up).

Step 5: Using your stencils, cut out the letters of your choice on the felt (small scissors will come in handy for this).

Step 6: Fill the box with whatever you like and give to that special someone.

CONVERSATION HEART SUGAR COOKIES:

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2: Mix butter and sugar in a mixer until fluffed.

Step 3: Add the egg, vanilla and baking powder.

Step 4: Mix in the flour.

Step 5: Divide the dough in half and roll out to 1/4″ thickness.

Step 6: Using your cookie cutters, cut out into desired shapes.

Step 7: Grease your cookie sheet and use a spatula to place cut cookies onto pan.

Step 8: Bake for 6-8 minutes.

Step 9: Let your cookies cool completely.

Step 10: Using your Wilton cookie icing, create a heart outline and then fill it in.  Repeat on the rest of your cookies and then let them dry for about an hour.

Step 11: Using your Wilton icing writer, write or draw your favorite Valentines Day doodle or conversation.
