If you have been following along on my Instagram, then you may have noticed that Ben took me sailing in the Virgin Islands for my birthday this past month.  We had so much fun it’s ridiculous, and I am so excited to share some snippets from our vacation with you over the next few days.  I will be sharing our trip in order so that if you are planning on sailing in the BVI anytime soon, this will help serve as a little itinerary for you.

First things first, we flew into Tortola and rented our sailboat from Moorings Vacations.

It was really cool because my husband knows how to sail so we did it all on our own (with my parents) without a skipper (PS I was kind of nervous about this fact… but the islands are so close together that if anything were to happen, help is not far).  Anyway, we spent about six days sailing from island to island, and then returned the boat back in Tortola and took the ferry over to St. John, USVI to end our vacation by spending a few extra days at a relaxing resort, which I definitely recommend to just totally unwind (sailing is hard work).

As for our sailing itinerary, we left Tortola around 2pm and sailed the short distance to Peter Island where we stayed overnight in Deadman’s Beach next to the beautiful and luxurious

Peter Island Resort

(the only resort on the 1,800-acre island).  As you can tell, the white sandy beach covered with sea grapes and  palms was absolutely stunning.  The clear turquoise waters make for some great snorkeling and then you can come ashore and we had dinner at the Deadman’s Beach Bar and Grill (which was absolutely delicious).  I wasn’t sure what to expect with the food there in the Virgin Islands, but I say with 100% honesty that every meal we had there was exceptional.  But back to Deadman’s Beach Bar and Grill – their ‘painkiller’ drinks were the best and we noshed on their buffet while listening to the steel drum band (who played ‘happy birthday’ for me).

While on Peter Island, you can snorkel any of their five beaches (the best ones are Deadman’s Beach, White Bay Beach + Honeymoon Beach), hike some of their steep roads or trails or swim and relax by the pool at the resort.

All in all, we had a really great time at Peter Island and the seas were really calm, despite the fact that it was overcast and sprinkling here and there.

Anyway, stay tuned for day two tomorrow at Cooper Island!
