I spent this past week lounging in the sunshine on the beautiful sandy beaches of Akumal, Mexico and it felt like I was hanging (or swinging in a hammock) in heaven on earth. While only about an hour south of Cancun, this little quiet paradise feels like a world away from the hubbub of the busy city. All that is needed to enjoy your peaceful stay is a fabulous array of swimsuits, because sunbathing, swimming with turtles, kayaking in the sea and snorkeling in lagoons will certainly be on the agenda.

We stayed at my parents vacation house, Casa Playa Del Caribe, in Akumal Sur. It's the perfect relaxing retreat (and where Ben and I spent our honeymoon helping baby sea turtles who had just hatched make it to the ocean). It was such a neat experience, and one you can usually witness in the summer months. Though, you can swim with the turtles year-round, as Akumal literally means "place of the turtles."
