With only twenty-four hours in Rome, I couldn't wait to get into the city and explore. But first, pizza and vino haha! As soon as we landed, dropped our bags off at the hotel and quickly freshened up, we had our cab drop us off near Trevi Fountain. On our way we passed a cute little street café and darted inside to grab a pizza margherita. It was the perfect way to welcome ourselves into the "Eternal City." Once we had gotten our fill and felt refreshed (flights can be so physically draining) we headed over to Trevi Fountain. It was so incredible, but oh-so-crowded! I got about one picture before feeling the pressure to move for the next tourist in awe. Needless to say we didn't spend much time there. Instead, we opted to wander, find some gelato and make our way over to the colosseum.

And speaking of gelato, I have one piece of advice for you. If they tend to have every flavor under the sun (that all appear to be untouched), I recommend you keep walking. They cater to tourists and aren't making the yummy gelato you really want. If you are a sugar aficionado like me, then this piece of advice will save your tastebuds haha.

Ok back to our day... so, on your way over to the colosseum you will pass by beautiful views like the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill (the most ancient part of the city). If you have time, stop in and explore. A guide is helpful because otherwise it might just look like a jumble of ruins over different time periods. But Rome certainly has a lot of history and it's so cool to learn about.

Next, we finally made it over to the colosseum. It was perfect timing because we were able to walk around the entire beautiful (and massive) stone amphitheater, with extra time to see the Arch of Constantine, walk through Via Sacra (the sacred road) and grab a glass of wine with a view of all of it while watching the sun go down. It was a perfect day.

Lastly, we found a great spot to grab some dinner, more gelato, and head back to the hotel to pass out. It was a great way to spend our day in Rome.

I wish we had had more time in this beautiful city, but I just can't wait to go back (and do a little shopping while I am at it haha).

Have any of you been to Rome recently? What was your favorite thing?
