This past February I decided to take a drive up North to visit some of my Arizona favorites: Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon and the Grand Canyon (stay tuned for those posts). It had been a while since I had the chance to visit all but it was the perfect weekend getaway. It was a bit chillier than I had expected for Arizona, but it worked in my favor as it was a lot less crowded during "off season."

Only a scenic four hour drive from Phoenix, it was about time I took advantage of this beautiful state of ours. The parking lot to Horseshoe Bend is actually right off the 89 as you pull into Page, so it was the perfect pull off to catch the sunset before heading to check into our hotel.

And no, I didn't actually road trip in this dress haha... I threw it on before hiking down to the views. I just couldn't resist acting like the dancing emoji lady in my flowy dress with this beautiful natural backdrop.

When we got to the bottom I learned that I don't really have a fear of heights haha. I think maybe at one point I used to but I don't seem to have that chip in my brain anymore. But I don't recommend getting that close to the edge if you feel uneasy near cliffs.

When to Visit Horseshoe Bend

If you're heading to Horseshoe Bend in the near future, I recommend visiting anytime from January to May. It's not as busy and the weather is a bit more pleasant. But if you are wanting to squeeze in Lake Powell as well then the warmer months work great too!

As for the time of day to visit Horseshoe Bend, I visited in the evening to catch the sunset. The sun will set right behind your beautiful view and will make for some incredible pictures and allow you to capture some of the desert color. However, part of the river will be in the shade at that time due to the large cliffsides on either side, so if you prefer no shadows in your photos then I recommend visiting mid-morning or even mid-day.

If you do decide to visit in the evening, I recommend getting there about an hour or more before sunset. This will give you time to park, hike down (about 3/4 of a mile) and pick your spot to set up your gear.

Regardless of the time of year or day, it can get pretty busy with tourists and photographers hoping to catch the same beautiful views. So find your spot and stake your claim, my friends haha.

I hope you visit soon and enjoy!
