Ben, Luna and I recently had a nice, relaxing staycation at the iconic Mountain Shadows in Scottsdale (Arizona) the other weekend and we had such a great time relaxing by the pool in their cabana with Luna and enjoyed the morning sunshine during their yummy brunch. And our room was so gorgeous (they have a gorgeous in-room bathtub surrounded by penny-tiled marble that is the epitome of relaxation).
This mid-century modern hotel is desert living at its finest. It was originally built below Camelback Mountain in 1959 and it reemerged after being completely rebuilt (while keeping aligned with its mid-century roots) in 2017. Their pool is so much fun and it has gorgeous views of the mountain while you sip on rosé in the shade of your cabana or lounger. We brought along Luna's flamingo float and she loved it haha.
We ate breakfast every morning at Hearth '61 and enjoyed their craft cocktails every night while watching the sunset behind Camelback Mountain.
If you're heading to Arizona anytime soon (or looking for a fun staycation destination), I would definitely recommend Mountain Shadows. If you're looking for a relaxing, but fun time, the pool is such a great feature (it gets more crowded in the afternoons so we loved heading there early with Luna).
Fort fun we decided to head to the OdySEA aquarium since we are hardly down that way. It was fun playing tourist in our hometown (but we skipped the Dolphinarius exhibit since I personally don't believe dolphins belong in the desert (and several have died in captivity in the last two years)).
Anyway, come visit us in Arizona and let me know if you have any further questions about where to stay, eat or things to do. Or you can also check my FAQ page.
